From Sudan to Haiti, war and hunger are deepening while a cyclone menaces 1.5 million people
A new cyclone threatens the Philippines. War and hunger keep deepening from Sudan to Haiti. Cyclone Murasu-26 puts about 1.5 million people in its Category 1 wind zone of at least 120 km/h (GDACS, 3 Nov 2026, 06:00 UTC). In Yemen, heavy fighting since late October is again driving families from their homes, and emergency medical supplies reached clinics in Taiz this week (4 Nov 2026). In Gaza, the October 2025 ceasefire continues to be broken: more than 1,000 Gazans have been killed since it took force (Gaza Health Ministry, standing record). Sudan's war continues to displace and starve people, with 33.7 million needing help in 2026 (OCHA, 2026 HNRP).
Each crisis makes the others worse. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has collapsed to 3.3 ships a day, down 97 percent from a year earlier (IMF PortWatch, week 19–25 Oct 2026). Gulf food and fuel imports for East Africa, Yemen and the Horn now move through far fewer channels, and drought is already drying harvests across the Horn and the Sahel (GDACS, 2 Nov 2026). Yemen's port and health systems should be resupplied before fighting closes the roads to Taiz and Hodeidah. Aid agencies working in and around the cyclone's path should pre-position food and shelter now, because the wind zone crosses districts already hosting displaced families.
